To keep your
brace clean we strongly suggest that you wear a garment
underneath, such as a cotton t-shirt. This will
not only keep the orthosis cleaner but will make wearing
more comfortable. the materials in our LSOs and TLSOs
our closed cell, meaning they will not absorb moisture, so
to clean your brace, you may wipe it out soap and water,
being careful not to leave soap residue. You can also
use alcohol wipes to disinfect the brace. Do not use a heat
source to dry your brace, let it air dry.
If you have received your orthosis
before surgery, you will want to wear it as much as possible
before surgery to become adjusted to it. This will
also give us a chance to identify and correct problems and
make adjustments not accomplished at the initial fitting.
It is easier for us and for you to make adjusments to the brace on you before
surgery, as it will be uncomfortable for you post surgery.
If at any time you feel an adjustment is necessary, please
contact our office.
Follow up
We would
appreciate if you would make a follow up appointment a few
weeks after you are fitted with your brace to make sure that
it is fitting properly. In the case that you are
undergoing surgery, we recommend that you contact us shortly
after you are discharged from the hospital. Once
again, if at any time you feel that an adjustment is
necessary, please contact our office.
Your
practitioner has given you specific donning, doffing and
positioning instructions according to the exact type of
orthosis you have received. If you have
any questions or concerns please contact our office at any
time.
